How does the Draw Collar work?
The Draw Collar uses a heating element to preheat the flue to create draw prior to lighting a fire.
Can the Draw Collar be installed horizontally?
Yes. It will function exactly the same way as in vertical applications.
Does the Draw Collar change required clearances?
No. The Draw Collar has been subjected to rigorous testing, and will not change the clearance requirements.
Can the cord rest on the fireplace? Can I use an extension cord?
Yes, the cord is made up of high grade temperature resistant wire and covered with a high temperature sleeving, and is designed to withstand those high temps. And yes, you can use an extension cord if you need to in order to reach an outlet.
How much power does the Draw Collar use?
The Draw Collar uses 3.8 amps at 120v.
How long does the Draw Collar take to create draw?
It depends on the conditions and flue configuration. Most applications take 5-10 minutes, but may take longer in extreme circumstances. You can test to see if draw is established by lighting a match, blowing it out and seeing if the smoke pulls towards the flue.
How long can the Draw Collar be left on?
The Draw Collar may be left on 24 hrs a day 7 days per week if needed. It is designed with a thermal sensor which will turn the unit on and off as the temperature reaches a set point. Leaving the Draw Collar on allows it to prevent any reverse draft, which keeps the cold air and any smoky smells from coming down the flue when the stove or insert is not in use or the fire dies down.

This product is brilliant and works perfectly! It was also shipped fast. I plugged it in and within minutes no more smell or cold air coming down the chimney when it isn’t being used. The extension on the plug was long enough to reach the outlet. Also, lighting the woodstove is now so easy. We plan to leave it plugged in most of the time because we have a chimney backdraft problem due to a radon mitigation solution that pulls out radon below our basement before it can enter our home. During installation, I removed the existing woodstove pipe and used a metal cutting blade in my chop saw to cut it down to size. Everything then fit together nicely.
This DrawCollar is very useful. Works great, quiet and does the job well.
Had a lot of problems with down-draft on a cold stove making it really hard to start a fire without getting a very smoke-filled room. The Draw Collar has fixed that problem. In fact, I am amazed at how well it works. Local stove sellers had never heard of it, so I had my doubts about how well it would work. But I was desperate to do something (the local stove people had a lot of suggestions, none of which worked very well), so I gave it a try. It really does work really good. The stove and flue are painted with redwood colored stove paint, so I painted the Draw Collar the same color and it looks like it belongs there.
The collar work’s incredibly and has solved our smoke problem completely. Also the item was delivered very quickly and was half the price of a competitors price.
