Assembly and Installation Instructions For Rockford Chimney Supply Knockdown Multi Flue Caps

Caution: Use caution when assembling the multi flue cap. The metal screening is very sharp.

Step 1: Check your package for the following

Bag of Tapcon masonry screws (8 included)
Locking nuts (for lid studs)
Tube of caulk
Small tube of anti-seize
3/16" Masonry drill bit
8 Assembly nuts (only included with powder coated caps.)

Step 2: Assemble The Cap

Method 1: Assembly For Stainless Steel Non-Powder coated Caps
1. Start by unpacking the framework and positioning the screen with the lid studs pointing up.
2. Remove the hinge pins on each screen section. It is recommended to use needle-nose pliers to handle the hinge pins.
3. Position the screen sections with the lid framework pointing inward and insert the hinge pins to connect the screen sections.

4. Place the lid on the top of the framework by aligning the holes on the lid over the lid studs.
5. Apply the anti-seize on the lid studs to prevent the nuts from seizing up when you want to remove the lid of the cap for a chimney cleaning.
6. Locate the locking nuts in the hardware pack and tighten them onto the lid studs.

Method 2: Assembly For Powder coated Caps
1. Start by unpacking the framework and positioning the screen with the lid studs pointing up.
2. Position the screen section with the lid framework pointing inward. One side of each screen section will have assembly bolts on one side and holes on the other side. Position the screen section by fitting the assembly bolts through the holes on the adjacent corner.

3. Locate the assembly nuts in the hardware pack and tighten nuts over the assembly bolts on each corner.

Step 3: Attaching The Chimney Cap To The Chimney

Each cap is equipped with a 1.5" wide hinged mounting flange.  The mounting flange can be positioned either inside or outside the mesh screen. The only time the flange needs to be positioned on the inside of the mesh is when the screen size is the same size as the outside measurements of the chimney.

With the mounting flange in place use a 3/16" masonry drill bit with a hammer drill to drill the holes in the chimney crown for the tapcon screws. Make sure the length of the drill bit matches the length of the screw to ensure you drill the hole in the crown deep enough for the screw to fully draw into the chimney.

8 screws are included which is enough for smaller caps. You may need additional Tapcons if you have a very large cap. The included screws are 1/4" diameter x 1 1/2" length with a 5/16" hex head.

With the holes drilled in the crown, lift the mounting flange and run a bead of silicone under the mounting flange on each side for extra adhesion.

Use the included tapcon screws and drive them through the holes on the mounting flange and into the holes drilled in the chimney crown.
