Common Q&A

  • What is the difference between Chimney Saver vs. other water repellents? ChimneySaver Water Repellent does not evaporate or wash out and consistently outlives resins, silicones, acrylics, and more. Other water repellents are actually water sealers and trap the water vapors produced inside the chimney.
  • Is ChimneySaver resistant to deterioration caused by ultraviolet light? Yes! ChimneySaver is activated by ultraviolet light, where other water repellents break down under this condition.
  • Can Spalling still occur after treatment? Yes. Since water penetrates bricks, then freezes, spalling occurs. Even though Chimney Saver effectively stops water penetration, it cannot restore what has already damaged the brick. If spalling occurs after a year of application, another treatment may be necessary to insure further protection.
  • Can you apply Chimney Saver to a stained or dirty surface? Yes. However, the stains will be very difficult to remove after treatment due to the protectiveness of this product.
