The Sealtight Chimney Damper is an easy and affordable solution to replace a traditional masonry fireplace throat damper while saving on your energy cost. Old fireplace throat dampers warp over time and do not make a good seal, causing cold air to come into the home in the winter and allowing the cool air condition in the summer to go right up the chimney. The Sealtight damper is equipped with a gasket seal that creates an airtight seal at the top of your chimney preventing any cold air from coming down the flue into your home. Sealtight dampers will also keep insects and critters from entering the chimney.
The Sealtight Chimney Damper easily mounts to the top of the masonry chimney flue. A stainless steel cable with a spring chain handle is lowered down the flue connected to the damper to allow you to open and close the damper from inside the firebox. A bracket is mounted to the inside wall of the fireplace and the chain handle will be locked in the bracket when you want the damper to be closed. Simply release the chain handle from the bracket when you are ready to open the damper to have a fire. The Sealtight damper comes with a 30 ft. cut to fit cable, fireplace bracket, cool-touch spring handle, mounting adhesive and hardware. The only tools you will need are a set of wire cutters, a drill, 1/4" masonry drill bit and a hammer.
The Sealtight Chimney Damper is a low profile damper that will not extend very high above the top of the chimney when the damper is open. The low profile design is especially desirable for historic homes when you would not want to see the damper on top of the chimney flue. The Sealtight Chimney Damper is also a great choice if you currently have a multi flue chimney cap or a stone/slate chimney cap that does not extend very high above the top of the chimney. The low profile design should fit nicely under any type of multi flue or slate chimney caps. Since the Sealtight chimney damper opens inside the chimney flue, it will not provide any rain protection for the flue when the damper is open. You can mount an HY‑C chimney cap over the Sealtight damper to provide rain protection and add a spark arrestor for the chimney flue while the damper is open.
Note: Intended for use with traditional masonry wood burning fireplaces. Do not use Sealtight dampers with gas logs. Failure to open the damper could result in Carbon Monoxide to back up in the home or in the event of a gas leak could result in gas being trapped in the chimney which could result in an explosion.
