Measuring for Your Stainless Steel Chimney Cap

Measuring the clay flue or chimney opening is an easy thing to do before ordering. In any case, this ensures the chimney cap will fit properly.

For clay flue tiles, measure the length, width, and height of the tile. Moreover, for chimney openings that do not have a clay tile protruding above the crown, measure the length and width of the opening (you will need a Leg Kit for this type of installation). Then, compare these measurements to our sizing chart to find out which size cap to order.

If you have more than one flue in the chimney, you may need to consider the lid size of each cap to ensure they will fit side by side. However, if they will not fit next to each other, please see our Multi-Flue Chimney Caps.

  • Outside length of clay flue tile
  • Outside width of clay flue tile
  • Height of clay flue tile
  • Distance to neighboring flue caps

Installation

Above all, protecting your clay flue by installing our stainless steel single flue cap is simple. Additionally, follow these tips for a successful installation.

Firstly, place a bead of high-grade exterior silicone along the top of the clay flue. Then, firmly press the single flue cap over the clay flue to create a good bond. Finally, you will need to gently tighten the cone point pressure screws until they make contact with the clay flue tile. Be sure you do not overtighten.

For installations where the chimney opening does not have a clay tile protruding above the crown, please see our Leg Kit installation video. Finally, you will put a bead of silicone where cap meets the chimney crown.

In general, should you have any questions, contact our Certified Technicians for helpful support.

Chimney Cap

Good service. Quality stainless steel material painted black. Easy to install.
The top was warped upon receipt, about 1- 11/2 inches when sitting on flat service. I decided to use as is vs waiting for a replacement. Does the job.

Now my chimney is well-dressed!

I've been meaning to get a cap for my chimney since we bought our house a few years ago... Now, my chimney is well-dressed, protected from weather and critters, and our wood stove has been burning more efficiently and is providing more heat with smaller fires. We live in a rural northern California town, about 100 miles from the nearest large (or even small!) city and being able to order such a high-quality product online saved us a lot of trouble, travel, and money.
